AMD has announced its next-generation on-chip neural processing unit (NPU) architecture, XDNA 2, which is expected to deliver over 3 times better performance compared to the previous generation XDNA NPU. The XDNA 2 NPU will make its debut with AMD's upcoming Ryzen "Strix Point" mobile processor, set to be launched in 2024. The "Strix Point" processor is rumored to feature faster "Zen 5" CPU cores, a potential increase in CPU core count to 12, and an upgraded RDNA 3.5 iGPU with high CU counts, aiming to compete with the iGPU of the Apple M3 Max processor. With the XDNA 2 announcement, the NPU is also receiving an overhaul, promising a possible 32 TOPS NPU performance.
