MSI Unveils New GeForce RTX 5090 Models at CES 2025
MSI has fully embraced NVIDIA's latest GeForce RTX 50 "Blackwell" GPU series at CES 2025, showcasing a wide range of custom models on display. The TechPowerUp team has explored many of MSI's newest offerings and also discovered intriguing information about two upcoming GeForce RTX 5090 models, informally known as "Lightning" Special Editions.
According to company representatives, MSI's engineering team is working on a unique PCB design for these two cards, which will set them apart from NVIDIA's reference layout. While most AIBs are expected to use NVIDIA's standard GeForce RTX 5090 PCB, MSI is taking a different approach with their exclusive models.
One of the models, the liquid-cooled Special Edition GeForce RTX 32G, will feature MSI's "HydroCool System," described as the "ultimate all-in-one (AIO) water cooling solution." This model will come equipped with a twin STORMFORCE fan setup, advanced airflow channels, and a next-gen dual 120 mm AIO liquid cooling system. Custom-engineered water channels will flow directly through the card's onboard memory, while dual front intakes and exhausts will help cool the card and other components in the PC. Users will have the ability to adjust fan speeds independently using MSI software.
On the other hand, MSI's air-cooled GeForce RTX 32G "Lightning" Special Edition will feature a unique "FiveFrozr" fan configuration. Three STORMFORCE fans mounted on the shroud will act as intakes, while two fans on the backplate will handle exhaust duties. MSI engineers claim that this five-fan setup has been designed for exceptional thermal management and will effectively cool surrounding hardware. Custom fan speed tuning options will also be available for users to experiment with different settings across the five STORMFORCE fans.
