Upcoming Desktop Processor Launches at 2025 International CES

During the first week of the 2025 International CES, both Intel and AMD are set to expand their desktop processor offerings by introducing new 65 W models. This move will also bring more affordable motherboard chipset options to the market. AMD is preparing to unveil the AMD B850 and AMD B840 chipsets, while Intel will showcase the Intel B860 and H810.

According to Board Channels, a website that monitors hardware releases at the retail level, AMD is planning to make motherboards based on the AMD B850 and B840 chipsets available on January 15. The official announcement for these chipsets is expected to be made during AMD's event on January 7.

On the other hand, Intel is also gearing up to announce its mid-range Intel B860 and entry-level Intel H810 chipsets at its own event on January 7. These products are anticipated to be available for purchase starting January 13.

The AMD B850 chipset is essentially a rebranded B650, but with the option for motherboard manufacturers to enable Gen 5 PEG instead of Gen 4. This would essentially turn the platform into an AMD X870, albeit without the required discrete USB4 host controller. The AMD B850 will support CPU overclocking, unlike the AMD B840 which is similar to the AMD B550 chipset but lacks CPU overclocking capabilities.

As for Intel, the Intel B860 is expected to offer similar I/O features as the Intel B760 from the Socket LGA1700 platform. The Intel H810, on the other hand, will serve as a basic entry-level option. Both the Intel B860 and H810 are not expected to support CPU overclocking, although the B860 may still retain memory overclocking functionality.
