SK hynix's new Platinum P51 PCIe 5.0 was announced in March of this year, but has just been released in South Korea with upgraded specifications. The official sequential read speed is now 14.7 GB/s, up from 13.5 GB/s in March, and the sequential write speed has increased to 13.4 GB/s from 11.5 GB/s. The random IOPS read speed is up to 2,300k and random write IOPS is up to 2,400k, making it a strong competitor to Phison E26 based SSDs.
However, the endurance of the 2 TB SKU is limited to 1200 TBW, which is standard for modern SSDs and somewhat disappointing given the use of SK hynix's 238 layer 3D TLC NAND. The Platinum P51 is currently available in 2 TB, 1 TB, and 500 GB sizes. The power consumption is rated at 10 W, which SK hynix claims is industry-leading, although the Silicon Motion SM2508 controller is known to be more power efficient.
The drive has been benchmarked by South Korean hardware site Quasar Zone and has performed well in terms of the manufacturer's claimed speeds, according to CrystalDiskMark numbers. Pricing has not been announced yet, but SK hynix typically prices its SSDs at a premium compared to competitors.
Update Dec 14th: The 2 TB SKU is priced at 473,000 Korean Won (approximately US$330), making it relatively expensive compared to other PCIe 5.0 SSDs on the market. The 1 TB SKU is priced at 279,000 Korean Won (about US$195), including 10% VAT/sales tax.
