AMD Releases FidelityFX SDK 1.1
AMD has officially launched the FidelityFX SDK 1.1 to the public as part of its GPUOpen initiative. This latest update includes the source code for FSR 3.1, which aims to simplify the understanding of the technology for game developers and facilitate its integration into their games. FSR 3.1 is compatible with AMD Radeon RX 5000 series (or newer) GPUs, as well as NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20-series (or newer) GPUs. However, AMD recommends using at least an RX 6000 series or RTX 30-series GPU for optimal performance. The key feature of FSR 3.1 is its ability to provide full upscaling and frame-generation capabilities on all supported GPUs from both AMD and NVIDIA, distinguishing it from the rival DLSS 3 Frame Generation technology, which is limited to RTX 40-series (or newer) GPUs.
Building upon the foundation of FSR 3, FSR 3.1 focuses on enhancing the upscaler component. While FSR 3 primarily emphasized frame-generation, the upscaling technology was carried over from FSR 2.2. With FSR 3.1, significant improvements have been made to the quality of upscaling, along with the introduction of new upscaler quality presets, including a native AA mode similar to NVIDIA's DLAA. These enhancements in upscaler quality provide users with the flexibility to adjust quality settings for improved performance.
