Intel's Latest Processor and Chipset Details
Intel is set to release the Core Ultra "Arrow Lake-S" desktop processor, which will come with a new LGA1851 socket and the Intel 800-series desktop chipset. A leaked platform map on the ChipHell forums, discovered by HXL, has revealed that the 151 additional pins on the new socket will be used to expand the number of PCIe lanes from the processor, totaling 32 lanes.
The "Arrow Lake-S" processor will allocate 16 PCIe lanes for the PCI-Express 5.0 x16 PEG slot for discrete graphics, while eight lanes will be used for the chipset bus. Additionally, there will be two CPU-attached M.2 NVMe slots, one operating at Gen 5 x4 and the other at Gen 4 x4. The system agent will have 20 lanes of Gen 5 and 12 lanes of Gen 4, allowing for various high-speed connections.
Furthermore, the processor will feature four DDI links for Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1, and eDP 1.4b connections. DDR5 memory support will replace DDR4, with the platform accommodating up to two DIMMs per channel and offering increased memory speeds.
The 800-series chipset, likely the Z890, will provide additional Gen 4 PCIe lanes, USB ports of varying speeds, SATA 6 Gbps ports, integrated MACs for Ethernet, and slots for Wi-Fi connectivity. The "Arrow Lake-S" processors are expected to debut in Q4 2024 with the Z890 chipset, followed by other chipsets and processor models in early 2025.
